T.G.I. Friday’s® Restaurants Select State-of-the-Art ConnectSmart Solution from QSR Automations to Re-Energize its Kitchen Operations
Casual Dining Legend Continues its Revitalization Efforts, Gaining Speed of Service and Food Quality Improvements from QSR’s Flexible Kitchen Technology
LOUISVILLE, KY (February 24, 2005) - QSR Automations, Inc.™, a leading provider of innovative automation technology for the hospitality industry worldwide, today announced that Carlson Restaurants Worldwide has purchased its ConnectSmart™ Hospitality Automation Solution – including the eXpert™ hospitality controller, KP-3000™ keypad, and ConnectSmart Kitchen™ (CSK) graphical software – for its company-owned T.G.I. Friday’s® restaurants. As the first national casual dining chain to reach a milestone 40th birthday, T.G.I. Friday’s restaurants selected the complete QSR kitchen management solution as part of its recent efforts to revitalize its successful brand. In addition to investing in new decor, menu development, and training, T.G.I. Friday's wanted to update their restaurants with robust, state-of-the-art kitchen technology that would enable them to advance their operations. And with almost 600 U.S. restaurants, the company needed to support seven different kitchen configurations while implementing new processes to improve speed of service and food quality. With the QSR kitchen solution, T.G.I. Friday's restaurants found the exceptional flexibility and powerful features they were looking for, in a technology platform that could also carry them into the future. "QSR’s kitchen solution fits perfectly into our 'culture of hospitality' – an initiative dedicated to enhancing our restaurants within the spirit of our heritage of high energy service and enjoyable food," said Mike Archer, executive vice president and chief operating officer for T.G.I. Friday's U.S.A. "As we continue to evolve with our guests, we are thrilled to add innovative kitchen technology to help us transform our operations – today and tomorrow. We are even more excited about the speed of service improvements we have already seen." T.G.I. Friday’s restaurants operate with as few as four and as many as seven kitchen stations. QSR’s XML-based kitchen software not only makes it easy to support each specific restaurant operation, but also offers user-definable display attributes and sophisticated routing options that enable T.G.I. Friday’s employees to cook to ticket, improving efficiencies and quality. Using the software’s advanced delay routing capabilities, the restaurants can also now time the completion of all menu items within an order, providing a fresh meal for each guest while reducing ticket times. QSR also teamed with T.G.I. Friday’s restaurants to enhance the kitchen software to support zones at the expeditor station, a process that the restaurants use to ensure the correct menu item goes out with the correct order. Enabling them to be even more effective, T.G.I. Friday’s restaurants can now add important production data from the QSR kitchen software to their data warehouse, drilling down and identifying how long it actually takes for menu items to be prepared and get to the table – as well as all the steps in between. To gain a true picture of their operation, T.G.I. Friday’s management compares the production data with sales and labor information. Already having updated their infrastructure to include the Microsoft® .NET Framework, T.G.I. Friday’s restaurants are looking to further leverage .NET and XML with the CSK. The compact eXpert controller provides a distributed architecture and complete redundancy, as well as an industrialized design with no moving parts to ensure high reliability in harsh environments. With the standards-based eXpert controller, running Microsoft Windows XP Embedded, T.G.I. Friday’s restaurants can easily expand as needed, as well as take advantage of multi-media capabilities. "When we decided not to update our own proprietary kitchen system and instead look to the industry for a solution that encompassed the collective knowledge of a lot of different restaurant operations, QSR Automations became the clear choice,” said Deborah Lipscomb, chief information officer for Carlson Restaurants Worldwide. "We selected QSR’s ConnectSmart solution for our kitchen operations because we saw in it a powerful next generation platform that we could build upon and fine tune our processes. And QSR has become a strong partner in every sense of the word, bringing us new ways to meet our goals and excite our guests." With the initial rollout for all company operated restaurants completed this month, T.G.I. Friday’s restaurants have now designated the QSR solution as its corporate endorsed kitchen management system for its franchisees. The franchise rollout is scheduled to begin next month.
